Safety Town 2024

Safety Town 2024 will be IN PERSON

and the  AAPS COVID & Health Guidance

will be followed.

For incoming Young 5, Kindergarten

or First Grade Students

​

Safety Town is a popular educational program sponsored by Ann Arbor Public Schools
Community Education & Recreation in cooperation with the Ann Arbor Police
Department. This program is for children entering Young 5’s, Kindergarten or First
Grade at any school in the Fall of 2024. The programs goal is to help kids evaluate
“safe” from “unsafe” when faced with potentially dangerous situations.

Scholarships are available for those who qualify financially. 100% scholarship families pay $5

co-pay total for the morning program and

$10 co-pay total for the after care.
Families with current Rec & Ed scholarships will need to call 734-994-2300 x0 Monday-Friday from 8am-5pm for registration assistance.

Morning Safety Town

Week 1

Half Day AM Program

8:30AM - 11:30AM

Wines Elementary School

Safety Town is one of Rec & Ed's most popular summer educational programs. Your child will learn safety awareness in a fun and entertaining way using a child-sized mock Ann Arbor "town" explored on tricycles. Children learn how to distinguish the difference between safe and unsafe when confronted with potentially dangerous situations. Guest speakers include police officers, firefighters, "Louie the Lightning Bug", water safety specialists and more! Songs, games, stories and art projects reinforce the lessons about: Animal Safety Bike, Pedestrian and Vehicle Safety First Responder Safety Home & Electricity Safety School Bus Passenger Safety Water Safety NEW for 2024! Introduction to School Drills, Health & Wellness Body & Internet Safety Campers must be potty trained by the start date of camp. Will your camper benefit from extra support? Fill out the Special Needs Planning Form. All campers receive a t-shirt and bike helmet! PARENT ORIENTATION: Will be virtual and held on Tuesday, June 18, 2024 at 6pm.

Your child must be enrolled in Morning Safety Town Session 1: 6/24-6/28 #8801.401 to enroll in this activity. The Safety Town After Care program is designed for working families to complement the Safety Town program. This combination of an afternoon camp and the morning Safety Town program provides after care from 11:30am to 5:30pm Monday-Friday. Campers bring their own nut-free lunch and a filled water bottle plus 2 nut-free snacks for the day. Safety Town After Care Benefits: Pick up as early as 1:00pm and as late as 5:30pm Provides your child with a fun-filled educational experience Supervised by enthusiastic, experienced, CPR and First Aid certified child care staff Gives your child opportunities for structured outdoor play, safety-themed activities and imaginative play Daily Camp Schedule: 8:30am-11:30am Morning Safety Town Session 11:30am-12:30pm Lunch (Campers bring their own nut-free lunch) 12:30pm-2:00pm Choice Time, Bathroom, Outside 2:00pm-3:45pm Storytime, Rest, Music & Movement 3:45pm-5:30pm Planned Crafts/Activities & Outside and/or Gym Campers must be potty trained by the start date of camp.
