Ages: 5 - 7. Alebrijes are brightly-colored sculptures of imaginary creatures from Mexican folk art. During this art camp you’ll learn about the history and creation of Alebrijes. Then, you’ll get to imagine and create your own fantastical creature! You’ll use collage to create composite creatures, draw your creature in a larger size, and add textures and colors using oil pastels and watercolor! You’ll also get to experiment with three different ways of using color in your artwork. Ready to bring your own magical creature to life? All supplies are included. Instructor: Doodles Academy Staff. Ages: 11 - 13. Come join Janet Szeto in our brand new Cartooning Camp. In this camp, you will develop character profiles and illustrations, create storyboards, and experiment with page layouts. You will work on designing and drawing characters from different angles, learn how to draw different poses, and consider creative storyboard options. You will work towards planning your final page layouts, where your masterful creations will be on full display. Instructors: Janet Szeto. Monday, Wednesday - Friday (NO CAMP JULY 4th). Ages: 11 - 13. When you see a cardboard box, do you ever imagine forming it into a piece of art? This camp explores cardboard construction techniques to create 2 or more playful sculptures of objects, food, and/or creatures. Techniques overview will include cardboard attachment methods and painting tips. Finish off each sculpture by creating a collage or painting for additional texture and details. Let your creativity run wild and connect with a plentiful resource, in meaningful and personal ways that can make your home and our planet a more beautiful place to live! Instructor: Janet Szeto. NEW Exploring Clay

HALF DAY AM CAMP

July 17 - July 21

Ages: 8 - 12. Explore the basics of ceramics such as forming pinch pots, coiling, and slab construction. Projects may include making a box (for trinkets, jewelry, small collectables), a tile (wall hanging, trivet), pinch pots that you can form into animal sculptures, and 1-2 pieces you can imagine on your own. Also become familiar with various glazing techniques to apply to your pieces. If time allows, paint a premade pottery piece to take home. Campers will use their creativity and become good craftspersons while learning what it means to produce quality vs. quantity. NOTE: Campers will not be throwing on the wheel during this camp.
