NEW! Circle of Security Parenting Class

Parents of children 4 months - 6 years. Please register in your own name, not your child's name. Only parents should attend. Strengthen your relationship with your child while being supported by other parents in this group led by trained Circle of Security Parenting™ facilitators. Utilizing a series of videos and reflective questions, explore some of the challenges faced by parents and caregivers and learn how to read and respond to children’s needs. This evidence-based parenting model is designed to develop a secure attachment and relationship with your children while also encouraging independence and growth. Instructor: Susannah Keller & Andrea Horvath. 8 classes. 100% scholarship recipients pay $10.

Grades: Y5 - 2nd. Young movers explore ballet positions, beginning barre work, alignment, and terminology through imagination and purposeful play. Jumps, leaps, turns and more will increase flexibility, balance, strength, and self-confidence. A joyful, body-positive class that will positively delight! Open to beginners and those with prior dance experience. Instructor: Dance and Grow Director - Lisa Dietz. 6 classes. No class 5/7.

Beginning Jazz

Grades: 1st - 3rd. You will learn many classic moves such as jazz walks and runs, jazz squares, isolations, pivot turn, snap kicks, ball-change, the grapevine, and popular floorwork like jazz slides, half-splits, seat spins, and more. Dancers learn combinations but also engage with props and practice improvising and creating their own moves! A short in class presentation will take place in the final class. Instructor: Ms. Sears, is a polished educator with a professional dance and somatics career, a former dance professor, and adjudicator for the MYAF. 8 classes.

Imagine Dance, Olders

Ages: 5.5 - 8 years without an Adult. Imagine Dance is an introduction to modern dance, improvisation, and individual creativity in the dance studio at the CAB. Dancers learn to move their bodies in different ways as Lesley interweaves dance, music, literature, and art for a holistic experience into the dance world. Class includes warm up, floor work, locomotor, choreography, and improvisation. A studio performance will celebrate the end of the session. Lesley holds degrees in Children’s Dance and English Literature and has many years of experience teaching dance and the creative arts in Ann Arbor. Instructor: Lesley Criscenti. 8 classes. 100% scholarship recipients pay $10.

Dancers learn to move their bodies in different ways as Lesley interweaves dance, music, literature, and art for a holistic experience of the dance world. Family members are invited to join dancers in the dance experience. Ms. Lesley holds degrees in Children’s Dance and English Literature and is excited to resurrect her Blue Dragon Dance Theater Group with your family. Instructor: Lesley Criscenti. 8 classes. No class on 5/25. 100% scholarship recipients pay $10.

Adult/Child: Let's Sew Together Level 1

Grades: 1st - 6th with an Adult. Do you know a child who wants to learn to sew? Are you looking for a fun class to take with them? Come take an adult-child sewing class, where you and a child in your life can learn the basics of working with sewing machines, patterns, fabric, and more! No experience needed! Projects include a drawstring bag and pajama pants. The adult and child will share a sewing machine and workspace during class, taking turns "teaching" and reminding each other of safety and steps. Sewing machines and basic supplies will be provided. Materials list will be provided at the first class session. Instructor: Elise Blaauw. 6 classes.

Adult/Child: Exploring Clay Together

Sundays

10:00AM - 12:00PM

4/7/24 - 6/23/24

Grades: K - 6th with an Adult. Fee is per pair. Adults and children learn classical techniques of tile making, slab construction, sculpture, press molding, coiling, and glazing. This class is NOT structured in such a way that everyone makes the same thing in each session (i.e. a pinch pot, a bowl, etc.). Each participant will decide on their own projects and the instructor will advise on the best way to construct the piece. Children will not be able to use the wheel in this class. Fee includes glazing and firing of 3-6 medium to large pieces and material costs. Each pair receives one 25lb bag of clay per session. 100% scholarship recipients pay $55 (needed for cost of supplies). Additional clay can be purchased from Rovin Ceramics. Instructor: Mae Huynh. 10 classes. No class 5/26 and 6/2.

Ages: 6 - 9 years (with or without an Adult). S-T-R-E-T-C-H! Move, breathe, smile, and laugh while reaping the many benefits of yoga. Developmentally appropriate poses, games, breathing, and meditation techniques will be practiced to build body awareness, release energy, and experience relaxation. Yogi Carl brings 17+ years experience as a certified personal trainer and yoga teacher for all ages. Bring a yoga mat and plan on a fun and zen Sunday afternoon. Instructor: Carl Gunderson of Simply Holistic Fitness & Wellness. 8 classes. No class 5/26. 100% scholarship recipients pay $10.

Adult/Child: Let's Sew Together Level 2

1:30PM - 3:30PM

4/14/24 - 5/19/24

Grades: 1st - 6th with an Adult. This class builds off of the Adult-Child level one class and introduces new skills and fabrics. Students will be given a choice between two projects with the option to complete both if time allows. The backpack project will teach students about zippers, buttons, and 3D shapes, while the knit t-shirt will teach students how to use a standard garment pattern while working with stretch fabrics. Both child and adult are expected to have basic sewing skills, including threading, using seam allowances, and sewing both straight and curved lines. Sewing machines and basic supplies will be provided. Instructor: Elise Blaauw. 6 classes.
