Ballet FUNdamentals

9/12/23 - 12/12/23

Ages: 5 - 7. Young movers explore ballet positions, beginning barre work, alignment, and terminology through imagination and purposeful play. Jumps, leaps, turns and more will increase flexibility, balance, strength, and self-confidence. A joyful, body-positive class that will positively delight! Open to beginners and those with prior dance experience. Instructor: Dance and Grow Director - Lisa Dietz. 12 classes. No class 10/31 and 11/21.

Emphasis on the FUN of fundamentals with purposeful terminology and movement games, partner exercises, and performance skill development. A joyful, body-positive class that will positively delight! Open to beginners and those with prior dance experience. Instructor: Dance and Grow Director - Lisa Dietz. 12 classes. No class 10/31 and 11/21.

NEW! Beginning Jazz

9/13/23 - 11/08/23

Ages: 6 - 8. You will learn barre work, elementary conditioning, skills such as plie, tendu, releve, saute, beginning turns, isolations, polyrhythms and various styles associated with Broadway jazz and African diaspora jazz. Coordinated steps such as chase, pas de bouree, pas de basque, balance and more. Each class will have a warm-up at center, barre work, combinations in center and traveling across the floor. A short in class presentation will take place in the final class. Emphasis on safety and proper technique. Instructor: Ms. Sears, Instructor, is a polished educator with a professional dance and somatics career, a former dance professor, and adjudicator for the MYAF. 8 classes. No class 10/25.

Imagine Dance, Olders

Ages: 5.5 - 8 years without an Adult. Imagine Dance is an introduction to modern dance, improvisation and individual creativity in the dance studio at the CAB dance studio. Dancers learn to move their bodies in different ways as Lesley interweaves dance, music, literature and art for a holistic experience of the dance world. Class includes warm up, floor work, locomotor, choreography, and improvisation. A studio performance celebrates the end of the session. Lesley holds degrees in Children's Dance and English Literature. She has many years of experience teaching dance and the creative arts in Ann Arbor. Instructor: Lesley Criscenti 8 classes. No class 11/23 100% Scholarship recipients pay $10.

Grades: 2nd - 6th with an Adult. Please register in the child’s name. Hands-on Donut Workshop, both adult and child will work together to prepare traditional baked cake donuts and donut holes as well as a variety of donut glazes and toppings, including vanilla glace and chocolate ganache. Come ready to enjoy America’s favorite sweet treat! Instructor: Chartwells Staff. 1 class.

Grades: 1st - 6th with an Adult. Do you know a child who wants to learn to sew? Are you looking for a fun class to take with them? Come take an adult-child sewing class, where you and a child in your life can learn the basics of working with sewing machines, patterns, fabric, and more! No experience needed! Projects include a drawstring bag and pajama pants. The adult and child will share a sewing machine and workspace during class, taking turns "teaching" and reminding each other of safety and steps. Sewing machines and basic supplies will be provided. Materials list will be provided at the first class session. Instructor: Elise Blaauw. 6 classes. No class 10/7 or 10/14.

Grades: K - 6th with an Adult. Fee is per pair. Adults and children learn classical techniques of tile making, slab construction, sculpture, press molding, coiling, and glazing. This class is NOT structured in such a way that everyone makes the same thing in each session (i.e. a pinch pot, a bowl, etc.). Each participant will decide on their own projects and the instructor will advise on the best way to construct the piece. Children will not be able to use the wheel in this class. Fee includes glazing and firing of 3-6 medium to large pieces and material costs. Each pair receives one 25lb bag of clay per session. Additional clay can be purchased from Rovin Ceramics. Full scholarship participants pay $55 to cover materials. Instructor: Mae Huynh. 10 classes. No class 10/15.

Adult/Child: Let's Sew Together Level 2

1:30PM - 3:30PM

10/22/23 - 12/03/23

Grades: 1st - 6th with an Adult. This class builds off of the Adult-Child level one class and introduces new skills and fabrics. Students will be given a choice between two projects with the option to complete both if time allows. The backpack project will teach students about zippers, buttons, and 3D shapes, while the knit t-shirt will teach students how to use a standard garment pattern while working with stretch fabrics. Both child and adult are expected to have basic sewing skills, including threading, using seam allowances, and sewing both straight and curved lines. Sewing machines and basic supplies will be provided. Materials list will be provided at the first class session. Instructor: Elise Blaauw. 6 classes. No class 11/26.
