Weekly topics will include fingerprinting, facial recognition, deductive reasoning and more in this kid-friendly CSI program. Students assemble a worm habitat, dissect an owl pellet, examine fossils, rocks, minerals and much more!! Scholarship recipients pay a $25 materials fee. Instructor: Nuts About Science staff. 6 classes. No class 5/15. See below for focus of each week: We Love Mother Earth: You examine what happens to garbage, recycling, and pollution. You’ll make a toy out of recycled materials and examine a cool way to conserve water. The Sunny Side of Earth: Where are the stars during the day? You will explore this question as you create a Sun, Earth, Moon orbit model. Then you discuss stars and constellations and create a glow in the dark masterpiece of The Little Dipper. Fascinating Fossils: You identify and take home real live fossils (haha) and then use clay, a cup, and plaster to make your very own fossil cast to amaze their friends with!! Rock on! You explore the main ways rocks are formed, what a mineral is and what exactly a crystal is. You will take home rocks and crystals to add to your rock collection. Owl Pellets: Have you ever wondered what an owl pellet is? Find out as you dissect an owl pellet. You’ll also learn about the owls in Michigan and where they are in the food chain. Plants V. Animals: You discover the survival needs of plants and animals and learn their different life cycles. You’ll make Seed Balls and a Worm Home with live worms!

Though tabla drums are played while sitting on the floor, there is a tremendous range of expression possible. During this class, the instructor will cover the following: technique exercises, care for the instrument, Indian rhythm theory, beginning tabla compositions, basics of accompaniment, and much more. Don't miss this fun and unique opportunity to find the beat of your own drums! All experience levels are welcome, and if you don't have your own tabla, you can borrow from the instructor. Watercolor Basics

Grades: K - 5th. Grasp the fundamentals of watercolor art, from basics to specific techniques. Start by building your comfort with materials and boosting your confidence. Practice becomes enjoyable as we create fun pieces. In this course, you'll learn watercolor basics, including techniques like wet-on-wet, wet-on-dry, mark-making, and puddles. You'll also explore watercolor floral patterns, create feather paintings, make sparkling flowers, delve into process art, and master blending while creating popsicle art. Instructor: Namrata Khemka. 6 classes.

Grades: 2nd - 5th. Join Mr. Tucker on an amazing weekly adventure exploring your school's nature center, the pond, and the surrounding woods. Discover new things and develop a deeper understanding of the plants and animals that live all around us. Most of the classes will take place outdoors, so please dress for the weather and for going off-trail. Each week, students will meet in the Multipurpose room, and Mr. Tucker will then lead them outdoors. During inclement weather, class will be held inside. Instructor: Michael Tucker. 7 classes. Grades: Y5 - 4th. Beginning and Intermediate Levels. New and returning students are welcome! Join us to learn Spanish the FUN way through conversation, games, songs, and stories. This session will include greetings, colors, parts of the body, and an exciting immersion in the Andes mountains to learn all about llamas and their camelid friends; where they live, what they look like, and what they like to eat. In addition, enjoy writing, coloring, and creating your own llama craft project to take home. All class materials are included in the fee. Scholarship recipients pay a $25 material fee. Students bring their own snacks and water. Instructor: Language Adventure staff. 6 classes. No class 5/3 and 5/10.

Grades: 1st - 3rd. Dancers will learn lively dances from Europe, Asia, Central and South America, as well as from the American South in this spirited class. You will learn safe and creative ways to warm up, and fun ways of working with duet partners, small groups and large circle dances. Bachata, Texas Two-Step, Cotton-eyed Joe, Hula, and the Tarantella are some of the styles you will learn. A wide range of music, dance games, and exciting props enrich our dance learning. Have fun and stretch your imagination with dance friends. No special shoes are required, but socks that can be removed are a help. Ms. Sears, is a polished educator with a professional dance and somatics career, a former dance professor, and adjudicator for the MYAF. 6 Classes.

You will learn the Chinese language and culture through festivals, games, songs, videos, crafts, role-plays, and flash cards. You learn about pinyin and tones, numbers and colors, greetings, and ordering food from Chinese restaurants. Continuing students will further develop their language and communication skills with new materials. Instructor: Alice Chang. 6 classes.

Grades: 1st - 5th. Let your imagination run wild with colors and ideas! In this afterschool art class, work with the Doodles Academy team to explore how science and art beautifully intertwine. Embark on a journey of scientific and artistic discovery, starting with field sketches to master the art of observation, just like a scientist. Study an animal's habits and habitat, and use these insights to make some incredible drawings of your animal. Finally, transform your drawings into stunning watercolor masterpieces. Join us on this thrilling adventure to explore the wonders of the natural world and the exciting overlap between art and science! Instructor: Doodles Academy staff. 6 classes.
